About Us – RADARS
Rochdale And District Amateur Radio Society (RADARS) has been in existence in its present form since 1990 and was originally located at the Sea Cadets Rochdale, TS Frobisher II, Greenbank Road, Rochdale, OL12 0EN. In mid 1993 the Club moved to the Cemetery Hotel, 470 Bury Road, Rochdale, OL11 5EU, moving to the Bamford Fieldhouse Cricket Club, Hollis Lane, Bamford, Rochdale. OL11 5PW in 1997.
However, due to the devastating fire at the Cricket Club we moved back to the Cemetery Hotel, Bury Road until 2011when we moved to the Norden Old Library, Edenfield Road, Norden, Rochdale, OL11 5XE.
As demand for radio examinations grew, membership increased, and parking became increasingly more problematic we moved to out current location the Crimble Croft Community Centre, Aspinall Street, Heywood, OL10 4HW in September 2019 where we have more space and much better facilities.
The First Mention Of RADARS – Practical Wireless February 1992
The club callsign G0ROC was allocated in March 1992 and is now well known on the VHF bands, particularly during contests.
Current membership includes both licensed amateurs and short wave listeners whose interests range from Vintage Radios, Slow and Fast Scan TV, Satellite Communication, Computers, Microwaves, QRP, and Home Built Equipment to Photography.
