RADARS VHF Fox Hunt on Saturday 13th April 2019
The next RADARS VHF Fox Hunt will take place on Saturday 13th April 2019.
We will meet at 12:00 mid-day at The Owd Betts Edenfield Road, Rochdale, OL12 7TY.
Fox hunts are when amateur radio operators use a radio and and a directional antenna to search for a radio signal. Typically, the radio signal will be produced by a radio operator in a secluded location, transmitting at agreed times. Fox hunts can be a lot of very fun. You can learn about propagation, amplitude, and how objects can interfere with transmissions. Fox hunting can be done on any band in the amateur radio spectrum. However, the size of antennas can be restrictive when tracking the signal, especially if operators are travelling by car between reception locations. Therefore, ours is a VHF Fox Hunt and takes place on the 2 metre band .
We will use the same rules regarding timings and duration of transmissions as were employed in our previous VHF Fox Hunt and the rules will be circulated closer to the event.
It is anticipated that radio activities should be concluded by about 3:00pm and I am sure many will wish to adjourn to the Owd Betts for refreshments.
